MYRIAD, c'est une résidence-masterclass au cœur d'un big-band complet. Myriad place de jeunes musicien.nes en fin de cursus d’études ou en début de carrière dans les conditions d’un travail de création d'un répertoire exigeant. Cette formation encadrée par des musiciens phares du Gros Cube d'Alban Darche inclut du travail en tutti et en sections, un enregistrement, une restitution, une captation et des interventions sur différents aspects du métier de musicien. La session 2026 sera exceptionnelle, elle aura intégralement lieu en studio d’enregistrement et aboutira à l’édition d’un album du commerce, à paraitre en 2027 sur le label Yolkrecords. Les stagiaires seront rémunérés pour la séance d’enregistrement.

MYRIAD is a residency-masterclass within a full big band. Myriad places young musicians, either at the end of their studies or at the beginning of their careers, in the environment of creating a demanding repertoire. This training, led by prominent musicians from Alban Darche's Gros Cube, includes work with the full ensemble and in sections, a recording, a performance, a video recording, and workshops on various aspects of the musician's craft. The 2026 session will be exceptional; it will take place entirely in a recording studio and will culminate in the release of a commercial album, to be published in 2027 on the Yolkrecords label. Trainees will be paid for their recording sessions.

Destiné à de jeunes musiciens en fin de cursus de formation (Pôles Supérieurs et CNSMdP notamment) ou en début de carrière, Myriad est un stage/résidence de création en big band complet, qui mélange en ses rangs formateurs et jeunes musiciens. Il en résulte un orchestre intergénérationnel de haut niveau.

Le projet Myriad est étroitement lié à la volonté d’Alban Darche d’écrire pour un grand orchestre à la configuration bien établie : le big band complet. Cinq saxophones, quatre trompettes, trois trombones et un trombone basse, et une rythmique piano, guitare, contrebasse, batterie.

Après avoir créé et enregistré de nombreux répertoires pour big band avec son orchestre Le Gros Cube, Alban Darche invite donc de jeunes musiciens à se confronter à la fois à la machinerie d’un grand orchestre de jazz de configuration classique et à son écriture contemporaine, à plonger dans des compositions aux couleurs très personnelle, à appréhender des aspects architecturaux et rythmiques exigeants.
Pour transmettre la culture du big band et accompagner les jeunes instrumentistes dans l’appropriation d’un répertoire original, Myriad s’appuie sur l’ossature du Gros Cube. Tous les formateurs sont des piliers de l’orchestre, ceux-là même qui ont créé, joué, enregistré les répertoires écrits par Alban. La matière musicale qui est abordée leur est familière car ils connaissent les codes et les difficulté de cette écriture, et ils ont en outre une grande expérience des grands orchestres en général.
C’est cette richesse du vécu qu’ils transmettent aux jeunes musiciens de Myriad.
Chaque année le répertoire est renouvelé par Alban, mélangeant des créations et des ré-orchestrations de titres écrits antérieurement.

Outre la direction, Alban assure l’encadrement des saxophonistes et de la section rythmique. Jean-Louis Pommier prend en charge les trombones, Joël Chausse les trompettes.
La stage peut avoir lieu en une grande session ou bien découpé en deux sessions sur une saison, en fonction des partenaires d'accueil et de diffusion. Les séances en tutti sont entrecoupées de périodes de travail en sections, permettant aux jeunes musiciens de creuser avec les encadrants toutes les spécificités de la musique en big band (travail sur les articulations, les dynamiques, les équilibres au sein d’une section instrumentale).

Un concert ou a minima une restitution en conditions professionnelles vient conclure la session.
Des captations son et vidéo permettent de créer du matériau qui servira autant à la promotion du dispositif qu'à celle des jeunes musiciens aux-mêmes.

Intended for young musicians at the end of a training course (Poles Supérieurs and CNSMdP in particular for French students) or at the beginning of their career, Myriad is a full-fledged big band creation internship/masterclass, which mixes trainees and young musicians. The result is a top-notch intergenerational orchestra.
The Myriad project is closely related to Alban Darche's desire to write for a large orchestra in the well-established configuration: the full big band. Five saxophones, four trumpets, four trombones including a bass trombone, and a rhythm section : piano, guitar, double bass, drums.
After creating and recording many repertoires with his orchestra Le Gros Cube, Alban Darche therefore invites young musicians to confront both the machinery of a large jazz orchestra in a classical configuration, and its contemporary writing; to plunge into compositions with very personal colors, to learn demanding architectural and complex rhythmic aspects.
To transmit the culture of the big band and accompany young instrumentalists in the appropriation of an original repertoire, Myriad relies on the skeleton of the Gros Cube. All the trainers are pillars of the orchestra, the same ones who created, played, recorded the repertoires written by Alban. The musical subject matter dealt with is familiar to them because they know the codes and the difficulties of this writing, and they also have a large experience of large orchestras in general.
It is this wealth of experience that they pass on to the young musicians of Myriad.
Each year the repertoire is renewed by Alban, mixing creations and re-orchestrations of previously written titles.
In addition to directing the ensemble, Alban ensures the training of the saxophonists and the rhythm section. Jean-Louis Pommier takes charge of the trombones, Joël Chausse the trumpets.
The internship can take place in one large session or broken up into two sessions over a season, depending on the hosting and broadcasting partners. All sessions are interspersed with periods of work in sections, allowing young musicians to explore with the frameworks all the specifics of big band music (work on joints, dynamics, balances within an instrumental section) .
A concert in professional conditions concludes the session.
Sound and video recordings allow to create material that will serve both the promotion of the device and that of the young musicians themselves.
